Base to Peak

In-Person Course

This 8-week progressive hiking program is designed to build confidence, strength, and endurance for hikers in bigger bodies who are looking to challenge themselves in nature. Much like a Couch to 5k program, Base to Peak will begin with easy, low-elevation trails and progress to more challenging terrain each week. The course will culminate in a summit of New Hampshire’s Mount Monadnock via the White Dot Trail.

Course format: Base to Peak consists of weekly guided hikes on trails in Western Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Each hike will gradually increase in distance and elevation, with terrain that mimics the conditions of Mount Monadnock. We will build confidence and stamina as a group in preparation for this final hike. Post-hike reflection prompts will help to track your mindset shifts along this journey. A private group chat will provide space for encouragement, questions, and accountability.

Base to Peak is for you if…

  • You are a beginner to low-intermediate hiker
  • You can comfortably walk 2 miles on flat terrain at a steady pace
  • You are open to moving at a supportive, intentionally slow pace as a group
  • You want to join a community that values body liberation and personal success (NO weight loss talk)
  • You are ready to make lifelong friends, achieve your goals, and have a blast

Inclusive Outdoor Recreation

Ample Access Outdoors hosts guided outdoor activities in Western Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Activities are carefully planned to be inclusive, fun, and safe. There are two types of activities:

Community walks: Free guided nature walks are held once a month throughout the year. Trails are accessible via the MBTA.

Outdoor recreation: Guided activities like hiking, kayaking, birding, and snowshoeing are scheduled throughout the year. A small registration fee is required to cover associated costs like park fees, transportation, and equipment rentals.

What to expect: We hike at an intentionally slow pace that is comfortable for the whole group, with frequent pauses to rest, reflect, and enjoy the scenery together. A typical hike lasts for about 2 hours. Our only goal is to enjoy being out in nature together: We complete the entire hike as a group and adapt the route as needed.
